Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Police on Thursday reportedly arrested a man named Vemula Satish Kumar in the case of the stone attack on chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Satish listed as A1 in the stone pelting incident at Ajit Singh Nagar police station earns his living by doing construction work.

The accused was produced before the court, while the judge remanded the accused to judicial remand for 14 days.

City Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata, formed eight special teams with two additional DCPs were formed to continue the investigation. 50 CCTV footages, cell phone recording analysis, interrogation of suspects, tower dump analysis, recording of eyewitness statements were conducted by the special team. Based on evidence collected by the teams and surveillance teams, around 100 suspects and eyewitnesses were thoroughly interrogated.

On April 13, unidentified persons pelted stones at CM Jagan while he was on his ‘Memu Siddham’ bus yatra in Vijayawada. Jagan sustained a minor injury on his left eyebrow when he was greeting the people near the Vivekananda School at Singh Nagar in Vijayawada.

Vijayawada West MLA Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao also sustained an injury to his left eye. However, the chief minister received first aid aboard his bus and then went back to campaigning for around three more hours before halting for the night.

After duly noting the assault on Jagan, the Election Commission of India directed the DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy and Vijayawada CP Kanti Rana Tata to submit a report.

The NTR Commissionerate Police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by YSRCP MLA Vellampalli Srinivas. Based on the complaint lodged by the MLA, the Ajit Singh Nagar police registered a case under Section 307 IPC (Attempt to Murder) and took up an investigation.

The stone pelting incident on Jagan attracted national attention, with prime minister Narendra Modi, chief ministers from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal MK Stalin, and Mamata Banerjee all vehemently denouncing the stone attack on Jagan.

TDP writes to EC

Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday expressed apprehensions over the attempts of Vijayawada police to implicate senior TDP leader and former MLA Bonda Uma Maheshwar Rao in the case pertaining to stone pelting.

They wrote a letter to chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar alleging that the Vijayawada police, under pressure from the ruling YSRCP, were planning to foist a case against Uma who is contesting from the Vijayawada (central) constituency for the upcoming elections.
