Hyderabad: A case was registered against the principal and three teachers of a private school in Hayathnagar, for asking two students to remove hijab.
The case was booked on June 23 following a complaint by a Class 10 student who claimed that an objection was raised for wearing hijab. The girl was told not to wear a scarf inside the classroom.
According to the police, on June 22, the Class 10 student and her friend, studying in a private school at Hayathnagar, wore a hijab due to their religious beliefs. In the morning hours, their social teacher questioned them. She asked if they had taken permission from the principal to wear hijab.
When the students said they did not take any permission, the social teacher told them to remove the hijab. When the students asserted that it was their right and what they choose to believe in, the teacher replied that it is a rule not to wear hijab in their school.
A few hours later, the principal called the students and said it was against the rules. She said that religion should be left outside the school and should not be brought inside.
According to the principal, Muslim teachers in their school also remove the burkha when they enter the school and asked the students to follow the same.
According to the complainant, the principal said that failure to comply with result in no entry into the classroom. Another coordinator of the school took the students into a room and started forcing them to remove the hijab.
A case was registered under different sections of IPC, including Section 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) and also the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act.
