Tadepalli gang rape: Police arrest main accused in Ongole

Guntur district police have finally managed to arrest the main accused in the Tadepalli gang rape case. After 40 days of persistent manhunt, Venkat Reddy was arrested from Ongole Town in Prakasam district.

As many as six teams from Guntur and Krishna district stationed themselves at Ongole to nab Reddy. Another accused was identified as S Krishna. Police nabbed the prime accused following the extensive investigation. Police in civvies questioned beggars, transgenders, ganja traders, rag pickers, and others near the railway tracks.

Police said Krishna was last spotted by locals near his home in Vijayawada. However, he managed to flee from the spot after police teams came looking for him. Police were suspecting that he might be hiding near railway bridges. Eventually, they managed to arrest Reddy while he was taking rest under a flyover.

It may be recollected that the heinous crime took place on the night of June 21 at the Seethanagaram Pushkar Ghat where the victim, a nurse by profession, and her fiancé were spending time together.

Two miscreants attacked the couple and tied their hands. While the fiancé was brutally thrashed, the woman was sexually assaulted by the duo. They also stole their mobile phones, wallets and fled on a boat. The victim was admitted to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) for treatment and medical tests.

Based on the information from the victim and data of the old offenders, police have identified the accused and launched a manhunt. Police said that the duo was involved in some crimes in Vijayawada and Guntur. The accused were also members of the blade batch criminals in the region.
