Tahsildar murder case: How Vizag police arrested accused from Chennai

Visakhapatnam: Vizag police arrested the accused in the murder of Bondapalli Tahsildar Sanapala Ramanaiah in Chennai.

The accused was identified as Murari Subrahmanyam Ganga Rao (40), a manager with a construction company in Vizag and a native of Vijayawada.

Police are yet to establish the possible financial deal between the victim and the accused as the reason for the murder. Police said the accused wanted completion of the process of conveyance deed but the tahsildar did not.

It may be recalled that Subhrahmanyam Ganga Rao attacked Ramanaiah with an iron rod following a heated argument at the cellar of the apartment complex of the victim at Kommadi Junction locality under PM Palem police station limits in Vizag city on Feb 2. Tahsildar was shifted to a private hospital, where he lost his final breath on Friday midnight.

Vizag police commissioner Dr A Ravi Shankar said that Ganga Rao after attacking the tahsildar on Friday night, booked an air ticket on Saturday morning and left.

“Though we have alerted the Airport and Railway Station authorities in Vizag city, the airport authorities could not find the accused name in the passenger manifesto as the name had three parts. The accused boarded the Vizag-Chennai (via Bengaluru) flight on Saturday to reach Chennai,” he said.

However, when the flight made a transit halt at Bengaluru, the air hostess made an announcement taking his name to stay on the flight. Fearing he was being tracked, he got down at Bengaluru airport and exited along with other passengers. Later, he purchased a train ticket and boarded a train for Chennai. However, he was arrested on the outskirts of Chennai and brought to Vizag City for interrogation.

Police said that the victim Ramanaiah worked as Tahsildar for Visakhapatnam Rural and he was recently transferred to as Tahsildar of Bondapalli in Vizianagaram district.

Police contacted the real estate company on whose behalf Ganga Rao applied for a conveyance deed. The police made them call the accused and found out the location and his further plans. The deed was for 1,600 square yards located in Madhurawada costing around Rs 12 crore. The accused murdered the Revenue officer for not executing the conveyance deed.

Police have been verifying various documents to ascertain their role in the crime. Police said that they would chalk out a plan to prevent such incidents in Vizag city.
