Tanzanian drug peddler arrested at Hyd Airport, Rs 20 Cr worth heroin seized

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a Tanzanian citizen at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for carrying around 3 kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore on Monday.

Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a Tanzanian citizen at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for carrying around 3 kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore on Monday.

Identified as John Williams, he had concealed the heroin in a specially built cavity at the bottom of the trolley bag. The DRI officials said the value of the heroin is Rs. 20 crore in the international market.

A team of DRI officials at the Shamshabad airport said they had information that a huge cache of drugs was being smuggled from Doha. During a search operation, the luggage of John, who was arriving from Doha, was thoroughly inspected.

The officials found drugs secretly cavity inside his bag. He had concealed 3 kg of heroin in the cavity. He was immediately taken into custody and an investigation was put on the fastback. Officials are trying to unravel the conspiracy and identify other people involved in the drug trade.
