Hyderabad: Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Karimnagar zone seized Supralax syrup being sold for more than MRP. This was revealed in the DCA raids on April 26-27 in Karimnagar.

M Srinivasulu, DCA assistant director, Karimnagar, stated, “The firm had increased the maximum retail price (MRP) of the drug by more than 10 per cent of the MRP during the preceding 12 months, thus violating the Drugs Prices Control Order, 2013.” Supralax Syrup was found to be manufactured by Shervotec Pharmaceuticals in Himachal Pradesh.

Seizure of overpriced antibiotic ointments

In separate events, DCA officials seized stocks of Bact-Q ointment 5gm and Mupiheal ointment 5gm found to be overpriced, during raids conducted on April 26-27.

J Ashwin Kumar, drugs inspector of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, highlighted, “The prices of essential medicines shall be in accordance with the ceiling prices fixed by the Central government.”

N Ravikiran Reddy, a drugs inspector of Sangareddy, stressed the importance of stringent action against violators to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements

Drugs Control Administration officials detected medicines with misleading claims circulating in the market during a special drive.

LRD Bhavani, a drugs inspector of Siricilla, emphasised the prohibitory orders in place for advertising certain drugs for specific diseases under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

R Srilatha, a drugs inspector of Nizamabad Rural and G Surender, a drugs inspector of Suryapet, emphasised the need for further investigation and legal action against offenders.

Seizure of quack’s clinic

On April 26, officials raided the premises of a medical quack in Mulkalapally Village, Dornakal Mandal, Mahabubabad District, seizing drugs stocked for sale without proper licensing.

G Prasad, assistant director of DCA, Khammam, highlighted the dangers of indiscriminate sale and use of antibiotics and steroids by unqualified individuals, stressing the need for stringent action to safeguard public health.

K Devender, drugs inspector of Mahabubabad, reiterated the importance of legal action against both offenders and wholesalers/dealers supplying medicines to unqualified persons.

Call for public vigilance

DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy urged the public to report any complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines through the DCA, Telangana toll-free number 1800-599-6969. Vigilance and cooperation from the public are essential to combat illegal practices in the pharmaceutical sector, he said.
