Telangana DCA seizes Rs 1.55L worth calcium, vitamin tablets sold under guise of 'nutraceuticals' in Uppal

By Newsmeter Network Published on 4 Jan 2025 11:12 AM ISTHyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has seized Rs 1.55 lakh worth calcium and vitamin tablets which were sold under the guise of 'food products/nutraceuticals'.
DCA officials in Uppal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District detected Alcium-D3 Tablets (Calcium with Vitamin D3 Tablets) circulating in the market.
The product was found to be manufactured by Hindustan Nutraceuticals Inc., Industrial Park, Uppal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. According to the label composition of the product, it is classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
The product must be manufactured only under a 'drug license' issued under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, adhering strictly to the 'Good Manufacturing Practices' (GMP) outlined in Schedule M of the Drugs Rules. Additionally, it must meet the quality standards prescribed in the 'Indian Pharmacopoeia' (IP) as mandated, said Assistant Director, Shameerpet G Sreenivas.
In another raid conducted by the DCA officials identified a person Sarangi Naga Shiva who was running a medical shop illegally without a drug license in Allapur, Kukatpally, Medchal-Malkajgiri District. During the raid, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantities of medicines for sale.
As many as 59 varieties of medicines were detected including antibiotics, analgesics, antiulcer drugs, anti-diabetic drugs, antihypertensive drugs, etc. The DCA officials seized the stock of a total worth Rs. 30,000 during the raid.
āWe have lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders. Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unlicensed entities, which are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action shall be taken against such Wholesalers/Dealers,ā said T Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad.
The DCA urged citizens to report any suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities. Complaints can be registered at the Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on working days.
