Hyderabad: Telangana DGP Dr. Jitender has called for intensified and sustained action against organised criminal gangs and drug trafficking networks in the state.

Speaking after the first half-yearly crime review meeting held at the DGP’s office in Hyderabad here, he urged Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to strengthen legal action and surveillance against gang activities within their jurisdictions.

Focus on legal action and prison monitoring

DGP Jitender noted that several offenders with links to organised gangs have been serving prison sentences for over two decades. He stressed that the existing legal framework provides sufficient powers for the police to take firm and decisive action.

He also directed the force to intensify efforts to break drug supply chains, cautioning that the rise in drug abuse poses a growing threat to the youth of the state.

Tracing drug sources & coordinated action

Highlighting recent developments, EAGLE Director Sandeep Shandilya briefed the gathering on the arrest of several Nigerian nationals involved in drug trafficking. DGP Jitender instructed officials to trace the sources of the seized narcotic substances, many of which are being smuggled in from other states.

Drug Control Director Shahnawaz Qasim called on district police units to work in close coordination with drug control authorities, especially to counter the menace of counterfeit medicines.

Emphasis on training and legal preparedness

CID DIG Narayana Naik outlined new legal provisions aimed at aiding crime investigations, while Legal Advisor Ajay Kumar highlighted common gaps in investigative procedures.

TGPA Director Abhilasha Bisht presented updates on ongoing police training programmes to better equip personnel for tackling modern crimes.

Director of Prosecutions Sambasiva Reddy discussed legal strategies for handling organised criminal activities. Forensic expert Kripala Singh from Gandhi Medical College shared insights into evidence collection and forensic analysis for criminal investigations.

The high-level meeting was coordinated by CID Additional DGP Charu Sinha and was attended by several senior officers, including DG Prisons Soumya Mishra, and Additional DGPs Mahesh M Bhagwat, V.V. Srinivasa Rao, Swati Lakra, Anil Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Stephen Ravindra, and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty were also present.
