Telangana: DGP Shivadhar Reddy calls on 15 maoists to lay down arms as 588 rejoin mainstream in 2 years
Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Sunday made a renewed appeal to top underground CPI (Maoist) leaders and cadres to lay down arms and return to the mainstream, assuring them of a peaceful, secure and dignified life under the State government’s rehabilitation policy.
Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy reiterated the appeal earlier made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, urging remaining underground cadres, including 15 from Telangana, to shun violence and reintegrate into society.
588 Maoists rejoined in two years
In an official statement, the DGP said that over the past two years, as many as 588 Maoist leaders and cadres at various organisational levels have surrendered and rejoined normal life due to sustained efforts by the Telangana Police and effective implementation of the government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy.
“All of them have availed benefits under the policy and are now living safely and peacefully with their families in their native villages,” he said.
Rehabilitation policy yielding results
The police chief claimed that the positive outcomes of the State’s rehabilitation initiatives have encouraged even underground Maoists from neighbouring states to surrender before the Telangana Police.
He described the policy as credible, compassionate and effective, stating that it reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring long-term welfare, security and dignity for those who choose to return to society.
Assurance of immediate assistance
The DGP assured that those who surrender will receive immediate assistance and all benefits as per the provisions of the Government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme.
“The Government is committed to providing comprehensive support to enable them to live with freedom, respect and dignity in their native villages or towns,” he said.
Emphasising that changing times call for peaceful and constructive solutions, the DGP urged underground CPI (Maoist) leaders and cadres to recognise evolving circumstances, reunite with their families, and contribute positively to Telangana’s development.
