Hyderabad: Telangana High Court has refused to quash the FIR against former Bodhan MLA Shakeel in a hit-and-run case involving his son.

The court ruled that he must face trial in the case related to the 2023 accident.

Accident near Praja Bhavan

The case pertains to an incident that occurred on December 23, 2023, around 3 am, when a speeding BMW car rammed into traffic dividers and barricades near Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad. Police investigations revealed that the vehicle was driven by Shakeel’s son, Sahil.

CCTV footage confirms presence

Police confirmed that four people were travelling in the car at the time of the accident, and CCTV footage captured the entire incident. Sahil was taken to the police station following the crash.

Alleged attempt to shield son

Investigators found that efforts were made to replace Sahil with another person, Abdul Asif, as the driver to protect him from legal action. Cases were registered against Shakeel, Abdul Asif, and some police personnel for their role in this alleged cover-up.

Son absconding abroad

During the hearing, Additional Public Prosecutor Shalini Mishra informed the court that Sahil, the main accused, had fled abroad and was avoiding identification procedures. She stated that Abdul Asif was falsely presented as the driver during the investigation.

High Court dismisses petitions

Justice K Lakshman, after hearing all arguments, dismissed the petitions filed by Shakeel and two others seeking to quash the FIR. The court made it clear that they must face trial in the case.
