Hyderabad: In a major relief for thousands of litigants, Telangana’s special Lok Adalat disposed of over 74,000 cases through amicable settlements, easing the load on courts and speeding up justice delivery.
The special drive was jointly conducted by the Telangana High Court and the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) with active coordination from all police units.
Statewide settlement effort
The initiative aimed to clear long-pending compoundable cases by facilitating mutual settlements between parties. Telangana Police identified eligible cases, issued notices and ensured participation from both sides to enable smooth compounding.
Process and case-wise breakup
ADGP (CID) Charu Sinha said the settlement process began on October 27 and concluded on Saturday, resulting in the disposal of 74,782 cases across multiple categories.
Key settlements included: 14,642 FIR cases, 154 Disaster Management Act cases, 23,400 e-petty cases, 31,189 Motor Vehicles Act cases, and 5,397 cybercrime cases. She said all police units performed commendably in reducing pending compoundable cases statewide.
High-performing police units
Several police units recorded significant clearance of cases, with the top performers being: Hyderabad – 11,226 cases, Ramagundam – 8,108, Nalgonda – 6,410, Khammam – 6,090, and Warangal – 5,064.
Benefits for the public
Officials highlighted that the special Lok Adalat eased court burdens and saved litigants considerable time and legal expenses. Awareness campaigns were conducted to encourage public participation and inform citizens about the benefits of settling compoundable cases.
ADGP Charu Sinha credited the success of the initiative to seamless cooperation among TSLSA, district judges, magistrates, DLSAs, Commissioners of Police, district SPs and the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB). The effort significantly reduced the number of under investigation and pending trial compoundable cases across the state.
