Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police on 24 April arrested two persons, a 36-year-old man and a juvenile, for circulating fake news about Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on social media.
The boy who is around 16 years old and is in intermediate second year had created a WhatsApp group 'Theenmaar Mallanna Fans' on 14 March 2021. On 17 April, he received fake news about KCR which he forwarded to Bhemanapalli Shekar who in turn circulated it to different WhatsApp groups. The post soon became viral on social media and WhatsApp groups.
A case under various sections of the IPC was registered at the cyber crimes police station and an investigation was launched. On Saturday, the sleuths of the commissioner's task force, north zone, along with CCS, cyber crime, Hyderabad, apprehended Bhemanapalli Shekar and the juvenile boy, both residents of Nalgonda district. They seized two cell phones from them. The accused along with the seized material were handed over to the cyber crimes police station for further investigation.
