Three-year-olds hand crushed in Hyderabad mall due to negligence

Hyderabad: A tragic incident occurred on Saturday at the City Center Mall in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. According to the Banjara Hills police, Syed Maqsood, a private employee and resident of Ibrahim Nagar in Banjara Hills, was at the mall's fourth floor with his wife Mahatab Jahan and their three children. They were playing at the Smash Zone when their daughter, Mehwish Lubna (3-year-old), got her right hand sucked into an open machine whose machinery parts were visible and the cover was opened.

Mehwish thought it was a play machine and kept her hand in it. The machine was functioning without proper safety covers, and as a result, Mehwish's right hand's three fingers and left hand's top index finger got crushed.

The little girl had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention, where doctors had to amputate her right hand's three fingers as they were completely crushed and couldn't be re-attached. Maqsood alleges that there was complete negligence on the part of the mall management and Smash Zone staff. Despite the incident, no staff approached to help as there was no staff available to look after the children playing in the Smash Zone.

Maqsood approached the management for CCTV footage, but they informed him that they had deleted the camera coverage of the incident area. He is now demanding that legal action be taken against City Center Mall's management for the loss incurred to his daughter. He has also demanded that the shopping mall be seized. The family is currently seeking justice and hoping that necessary measures are taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future.

Banjara Hills Inspector M Narender has stated that a case has been registered against Smash Zone under sections of IPC 337 and 201 and is currently under investigation. This incident highlights the importance of implementing proper safety measures to prevent such accidents from happening in public places like shopping malls.
