Hyderabad: An eighth standard student was allegedly raped by Nirmal Municipal vice-chairperson and Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader Sajid Khan.
Nirmal district Sub-Inspector K Vinay said Sajid Khan, 35, took the victim along with a woman to Hyderabad in January and committed the crime.
Police said the woman facilitated Sajid Khan's meeting with the victim. Police said the girl was told that they are going to Nizamabad for a function.
Sajid Khan allegedly took the girl to different places and committed the crime. He later threatened her against disclosing the incident. The girl later spoke to her parents who filed a complaint on Saturday night. Police were initially hesitant to lodge the complaint.
Superintendent of Police, Nirmal, Challa Praveen Kumar said police have launched a hunt to nab the accused.
A case was registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and 376 (ii) (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.
