Hyderabad: Jeedimetla Police have unearthed a scam related to the government double-bedroom housing scheme, arresting two persons who allegedly duped several citizens by promising them houses under the scheme.

The case came to light after a complaint was lodged by one of the victims, K Malleshwari, leading to the registration of a case on July 23. The accused, identified as G Sridhar and Pradeep Prasad, were arrested on Saturday at Godavari Homes, Suchitra.

Accused posed as political insider

According to the police, G Sridhar posed as a member of the BRS party and claimed to have close ties with the Quthbullapur MLA. To gain the trust of his victims, he reportedly showed photographs of political leaders.

Believing his claims, several individuals paid large sums as ‘processing fees’ and ‘registration charges’ to secure a house under the government scheme.

However, none of the promised benefits materialised. Instead, victims were handed fake allotment letters to create an illusion of legitimacy.

Forged documents, seized equipment

Police said that Sridhar was aided by Pradeep Prasad, a JIO employee, who helped generate fake housing allotment letters using Photoshop and other tools. These letters were passed off as official documents from the government housing scheme.

During the arrest, the police seized fake allotment letters, a car, a laptop, a desktop computer, a web camera, printer, scanner and two mobile phones from the accused.

Both accused were produced before a local court. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the scam and identify additional victims or accomplices.

ACP (Balanagar Division) P Naresh Reddy confirmed the arrests and said more details will emerge as the probe progresses.
