Hyderabad: On Saturday, two persons were arrested for possessing illegally activated SIM cards. Special Crime Team, CCS, DD Hyderabad, and Nampally police apprehended the two persons and seized 184 illegally activated SIM cards (Airtel - 150, Jio - 34) from them. They were planning to sell the illegal SIM cards.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nanevath Dinesh Kumar Naik (22) and Parnapally Sai Pradeep (24). Both work as SIMS promoters and distributors in Cuddapah, Andhra Pradesh.
Case details
Police said that the accused work at a SIM distributor centre in Cuddapah district, Andhra Pradesh and were illegally activating the new Airtel SIM cards in the names of customers who visit their store to purchase a new Vodafone-Idea SIM cards.
They were doing these without informing the customers by misusing their KYC details and fingerprints. Then they came to Hyderabad to sell the illegally activated SIM cards to buyers at high prices.

The police have advised citizens to be cautious while purchasing new SIM cards or updating their KYC details in authorised network stores and centres.
