Hyderabad: A stray dog was seen carrying the severed head of a newborn at Vanasthalipuram on Sunday.

M.Karthik, a resident of LB Nagar, who was sitting at a milk shop near the Vivekananda statue on Sahara Road, was shocked to see the dog carrying the infant's head.

He along with some of his friends shooed away the stray animal. The canine left the head and ran away. He immediately called 100 and reported the incident.

Vanasthalipuram Police Station SHO Satyanarayana said that CCTV footage in and around the area is being examined to identify the place from where the stray dog picked up the head.

Police also checked with local hospitals to find out whether any premature baby has died and been disposed of.

A case was registered in Vanasthalipuram police station under Section 318 of the IPC.
