Hyderabad: A group of students landed in legal trouble after a late-night birthday celebration in Hyderabadās Syedaliguda spiralled into chaos, with youngsters dancing to loud music and brandishing swords.
The Asifnagar police booked a case after a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
Celebrations turn unlawful
The incident occurred on Monday night but came to light on Wednesday after the footage surfaced online. In the video, over ten youngsters, mostly students, were seen dancing with swords and cutting cakes using them, creating panic in the neighbourhood.
Taking suo motu cognisance, the Asifnagar police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Inspector N Anand confirmed that an FIR had been filed and an investigation was underway.
Most participants were minors
According to police, many of the students involved are minors. āWe are seeking legal advice before proceeding with appropriate action as per the rules,ā said a police official. The authorities are proceeding cautiously, given the age of those involved.
Parents counselled
In a preventive move, police summoned the parents of the students and conducted a counselling session. Officials emphasised the importance of parental supervision and the potential consequences of allowing such behaviour during celebrations.
The police have also warned that strict action will be taken in the future against any such public nuisance, particularly when weapons are involved.
