Police suspect that the cause of the fire is a short circuit.
The fire broke out in the TVS showroom and godown in the KP Nagar area on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway early morning.
According to Vijayawada Central ACP P Bhaskar Rao, the fire accident occurred when new vehicles were being unloaded from a truck which came from Chennai. The fire started from the first floor of the showroom and quickly spread to the godown.
On information from the security personnel, fire tenders started operation.Five fire engines were deployed to douse the blaze as a result of which as many as 200 vehicles could be saved. "Since the store and godown as pre-fabricated structures, the fire spread quickly," said the police.
The showroom is also said to be the main hub for TVS vehicles for Vijayawada and Krishna districts. The loss could be around Rs 4 crore, as per preliminary estimates.
A case is yet to be lodged by the showroom authorities.
