Vikarabad nurse kills parents with poison injection to stop arranged marriage, arrested

Vikarabad: In a shocking case of parricide, a young nurse in Vikarabad district allegedly murdered her parents by injecting them with poison to avoid an arranged marriage, police said on Wednesday.

Incident initially mistaken for suicide

The incident occurred in Yacharam village under the rural limits of Vikarabad district. The couple was found lying unconscious inside their house, leading relatives and villagers to initially suspect that they had died by suicide due to financial stress.

Family background

Disclosing the case details before the media, Vikarabad DSP Srinivas Reddy said Dasarath and Lakshmi had four children, one son and three daughters. Their youngest daughter, Surekha, was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Sangareddy.

During her employment, she developed a relationship with a young man. Her parents opposed the relationship and subsequently arranged marriage talks with another prospective groom.

Motive behind the crime

Elaborating further, the DSP said that Surekha was determined to stop the proposed marriage. On Sunday, she allegedly told her parents that she would administer injections for knee pain and separately injected both with a poisonous substance.

After their deaths, she reportedly placed their bodies side by side inside the house to create the impression of a joint suicide.

Attempt to mislead family and police

The accused later contacted her brother, Ashok, claiming that their parents had collapsed after losing consciousness. She subsequently complained to the police, following which an inquiry was initiated.

Police probe exposes truth

During the investigation, inconsistencies in her version raised suspicion. Srinivas Reddy said that questioning and evidence confirmed that the daughter had administered poison injections leading to the deaths.

Police have taken the accused into custody and registered a case of murder. Further investigation is underway to ascertain additional details, including the source of the poison and whether any other persons were involved.
