Visakhapatnam: Police on Thursday arrested a fake navy commander who extracted Rs 35 lakh from 15 unemployed youth promising them jobs.

He was identified as Dadi Satya Surya Chalapathi Rao alias Sashikanth.

Deputy Commissioner of Police K Anand Reddy said the naval police handed over Sashikant to Malkapuram for an investigation into his activities.

During interrogation, it was found that Sashikant, a native of Vizianagaram, passed his tenth class from Korukonda Sainik School. After he failed to get into NDA, he studied BSc in Kartabanji, Odisha, and later took up jobs in customer care centers. He was transferred to Visakhapatnam where he decided to make quick bucks by cheating gullible unemployed youth.

"So far he cheated 15 youngsters and collected an amount of Rs 35 lakh. Cases were filed in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada," Anand Reddy said.

He said Sashikant also cheated several women promising them to marry. His wife divorced him and shifted to Hyderabad. His present companion also left him and settled in Hyderabad.
