Visakhapatnam: A week after a 35-year-old woman was hacked to death, Visakhapatnam city police arrested a man from the Bheemili area.
Identified as Olikal Pradeesh, he is a native of Kerala and presently residing at Gollaveedhi at Tagarapuvalasa. The deceased and the accused worked at a pharma company in Bheemili.
Pradeesh along with his wife and two children has been staying in a penthouse at Tagarapuvalasa for the past six years. He was involved in iron fabrication work at a private firm. The victim was also working at the facility.
According to the police, the murder resulted from a dispute over money for the sexual favor.
On June 9, Pradeesh called the victim to his home after his wife and children left for Kerala. Police sources said there was a dispute between the duo as the accused paid only Rs 500. She was demanding Rs 800. When she refused to accept, he forcibly raped her. Later the accused strangled her to death.
"The accused then consumed alcohol and chopped the body to drain out the blood for reducing the weight of the body. He wrapped the body in a blanket and kept it on his bike. Later, he dumped the body at an isolated place," said Inspector of Police, Bheemili, K Lakshmana Murthy.
While he was returning from the spot, he met with a small accident and was noticed by a few locals, which led to the arrest.
On June 11 night, the body was recovered from an isolated place. Special teams were formed to investigate the case, and the accused was arrested on Sunday.
