Visakhapatnam: Man promises jobs, collects Rs 30L; killed

Visakhapatnam: Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old DISCOM employee at Venkatapuram village in Visakhapatnam.

The killing of Molli Bangarraju had snowballed into a major controversy. Police later arrested Korada Govindu (30), a native of Venkatapuram village in Vizag. Police concluded that financial dispute was the motive behind the murder.

Bangarraju, who worked as a lineman at Discom, had left his house on October 31 for work. He was later found dead under suspicious circumstances near the compound wall of a guest house belonging to Korada Lakshmana Kumar, a relative of a top YSRCP leader.

Bangarraju's wife Nandani and hundreds of villagers protested at the collectorate demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

The investigation has revealed that Korada Govindu collected Rs 30 lakh through Bangarraju from unemployed youth promising jobs. But he could not provide employment to anyone.

As Govindu was being pressurized by Bangarraju for money, he decided to eliminate him. On the fateful day, he was called to fix the transformer at the guest house. When Bangarraju went to the guesthouse he was asked to switch off the transformer of the non-functional CCTV.

Govindu allegedly hit Bangarraju with an iron pipe. He died on the spot. Later he concealed his body under the asbestos sheets at the rear side of the compound wall of the guest house. He also parked the deceased's motorcycle at Boni village to cover up the crime.

Technical data showed the presence of Lakshmana and Venkatesh, relatives of the accused, at different places. The role of Lakshamana is being investigated.
