Visakhapatnam: Tipsy car driver goes berserk, hit bike before crashing into tree; 3 killed

By Newsmeter Network Published on 8 Aug 2023 6:06 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: Three persons were killed, and two sustained injuries after a speeding car hit a bike before crashing into a tree near the Rushikonda area in Visakhapatnam on Monday night.
People in the car were found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Arilova police said at around 9.30 pm, a speeding car with five persons going from Appugarh to Bheemili area lost control and crossed the median, hitting a tree on the other side of the road at Rushikonda Beach Road. At the time of the incident, two people who were traveling towards bheemili on the bike were hit by the car and died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old M Mani Kumar (travelling in the car), Prithviraj (28), and Priyanka (21) who were on the bike. The couple are from Rayagada of Odisha. Prudhvi Raj was working as a site-engineer at Sky Park Apartments in Vizag. The rider of the car Vinay, a resident of PM Palem and two others managed to flee from the spot after the accident.

According to the Commissioner of Police Ch Trivikram Varma, the rider of the car Vinay and his five friends hired a car for joyride on Monday. Five of them consumed liquor in the car. They went to a heated argument with some youngsters at Sagarnagar locality on Monday night and snatched one mobile phone from a youngster.
"The car owner is a resident of PM Palem who is into interior works business. He had given the car to a person who works as a carpenter. The driver took the car on Monday afternoon. We found alcohol bottles in the car. People in the car were under the influence of alcohol. CCTV footage shows that the speeding car hit a bike on the other side of the road," said Commissioner of Police.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is on.
Asked parents to be alert
"We have compared accidents in the last six months and observed reduced accidental deaths. On a daily basis, we are filing at least 100-120 drunk and drive cases in a day. We would strengthen patrolling much more also," said the Commissioner.
He said that they are more focused on the entire stretch of beach road to avoid drunk and drive cases. Commissioner advised parents of every child to be alert about the movements of their children.
Two similar car accidents were reported in Visakhapatnam in the last few weeks. Last week, in a suspected case of drunken driving, a man in Visakhapatnam rammed into several vehicles parked on the VIP road before crashing into a tree. The incident took place at around 11 p.m., and the driver quickly fled the scene.
