Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police arrested a woman sub-inspector and another person in connection with an attempt to murder case. The police have been on the job to nab the sub-inspector's sister, who is a judge in the Junior Civil Judge Court and Metropolitan Magistrate, for her alleged involvement in the case.
The sub-inspector was identified as G. Nagamani of the crime wing of the Anandapuram police station in Vizag city. Another accused is Appala Reddy, a driver. The police arrested the duo in Odisha on Saturday. So far, the police have arrested 10 people for their involvement in an attack on a real-estate businessman in Vizag city.
The attack
It may be recalled that two unidentified persons on a bike tried to kill P. Rajesh, a resident of Maharani Peta locality in the city and a real estate businessman, by attacking him with an iron hammer under MR Peta police station limits in Vizag city on 18 June. Rajesh escaped with injuries and was admitted to KG Hospital.
The MR Peta police led by inspector of police G. Soma Sekhar took up the investigation and after a painstaking inquiry, they identified the bike used by the attackers. Based on this single clue, they investigated the case and nabbed eight persons, including police constable Pramod Kumar.
The arrest of Pramod Kumar led to further investigation into the case and the police discovered the role of judge Vijayalakshmi, her sister G. Nagamani (sub-inspector), and Appala Reddy (driver). They have included the names of Vijayalakshmi and Nagamani as accused persons in the case in the remand report.
The victim Rajesh was a known associate of the magistrate and her sister. Both the sisters and their driver Appala Reddy absconded after the attack. There were no financial transactions or land disputes between the victim and the sisters. The victim had allegedly abused the sisters a few months ago and that was the reason they had developed a grudge against Rajesh, the police added.
During the interrogation, constable Pramod Kumar and another accused, Tarun Kumar, confessed that they were asked to attack Rajesh. They arranged a supari gang by paying Rs. 30,000 to attack Rajesh.
"We have been following the guidelines of the apex court and taking legal advice to nab the judge. We have issued notices to the judge," the police added.
