Vizag bride death: Police reveal love affair behind woman's death

Visakhapatnam: The mystery behind the suspicious and sudden death of a bride at her wedding in Madhurawada, Vizag city, has finally been solved. The PM Palem police revealed that the bride, M. Srujana, was in love with someone else and was forced into marriage.

It may be recalled that Srujana from Hyderabad died under suspicious circumstances during her wedding ceremony on 11 May. As the priest was guiding the groom to shower cumin and jaggery pieces on her head, the bride collapsed on the wedding platform. She was rushed to a private hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. The police suspected she might have taken some poisonous substance after they found datura seeds in her handbag.

The assistant commissioner of police (north), Ch. Srinivasa Rao, said Srujana had been in a relationship with a youngster, T. Mohan, from Vizag city for seven years and wanted to marry him. Mohan, however, wanted to settle down first before marriage.

Meanwhile, Srujana's parents fixed her marriage with Nagothi Shivaji of PM Palem in Vizag city and the marriage was slated for 11 May. Mobile phone data revealed that just before the marriage, Srujana had asked her boyfriend to take her away but he had refused. Srujana told him that she would try to stop the marriage at any cost. She carried out the threat by consuming poison. Though Srujana's brother Vinay told the media that his sister didn't die by suicide as she had agreed to the marriage, the investigation revealed that she was forced into the marriage, the police said.

Srujana deleted much of her WhatsApp and Instagram chats with her boyfriend before the marriage.
