Vizag: Crime against women increase by 74 % in 2021
A total of 1,848 cases of crime against women were reported in 2021 against 1,059 in 2020.
By Newsmeter Network Published on 31 Dec 2021 4:09 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: Crime against women has increased by over 74 percent in Vizag city in 2021. City police chief Manish Kumar Sinha said a total of 1,848 cases of crime against women were reported in 2021 against 1,059 in 2020.
A total of 165 rape cases, 473 cases of molestation, 1,095 cases of harassment, and three dowry deaths were reported in 2021. In 2020, 137 rape cases, 320 molestation cases, 431 cases of harassment, and five cases of dowry deaths were reported.
Property offences in Vizag city have increased by over 15 percent in 2021.
In 2021, the total number of property offences reported was 804 while it was 696 cases in 2020. Offenders stole property worth Rs 6.49 crore in 2021 against Rs 4.57 crore in 2020.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central Crime Station) D Sravan Kumar said the detection rate in property offences is 58 percent and the recovery rate is 60 percent in 2021. "We have managed to recover Rs 3.7 crore stolen property," he said.
Police said 13 robbery cases, three dacoity cases, 181 housebreaking cases, 49 snatching cases, and one case related to murder for gain was reported in 2021.
Police said that majority of the cases registered under the POSCO Act have been investigated and charge sheets filed within 60 days.
