Visakhapatnam: Shock and anger have griped Vizag after a 16-year-old girl, who had gone missing, was allegedly gang raped by two groups.

The girl was recovered from Odisha. Though the heinous crime took place around ten days ago, it came to light on Sunday. Vizag city police have formed a special team to arrest ten accused including the boyfriend of the victim.

Police said that the girl was working as a maid at the house of an officer under fourth-town police station limits in Vizag. The employer and his family went for a vacation in mid-December and the girl stayed alone in the house to take care of the pets.

On December 17, the girl went missing. Later her father learnt that a youngster took the girl to RK Beach in the city. When their efforts to trace the girl went in vain, they lodged a missing complaint with the fourth-town police station on December 18.

“Based on the complaint from the father, we registered a missing case on December 18. Our teams came to know the location of the girl and we managed to trace her in Odisha on December 22,” said DCP (Law and Order) K Srinivasa Rao.

The girl narrated that she was raped by her male friend in a hotel. Later his friends too raped her. When the girl went to RK Beach to end her life, she was rescued by a photographer and was shifted to a room. Later the photographer and seven others confined her in the room and sexually assaulted her for two days. The girl managed to escape and flee to Odisha.

“Based on the statement of the victim, we have registered a case of abduction and rape under different sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. We have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. We will arrest the culprits in a couple of days,” said DCP K Srinivasa Rao.
