Pregnant woman found dead in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: The body of a missing pregnant woman was found near RK Beach under Three-Town police station limits in Vizag on Wednesday morning.

Police suspect that woman ended her life by jumping into blue waters due to family disputes.

The deceased was identified as Swetha (26), a resident of the Gajuwaka locality in Vizag. She was married to software professional Manikanta. The couple tied the knot around two years ago.

Police said Swetha was about five months pregnant and was staying in her in-lawā€™s house in Vizag. Her husband Manikanth has been staying in Hyderabad for the past few weeks. He works with a software firm in Hyderabad.

Swethaā€™s husband Manikanta said that Swetha had arguments with him and his family members over petty issues. He claimed that he called up Swetha on Tuesday evening and tried to sort out the issues. Later, Swetha suddenly disconnected the phone and did not answer the calls, he added.

Swetha went missing on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday morning, her body was recovered.

ā€œMy daughter has taken the extreme step due to harassment by her husband and in-laws. I am appealing to the police to take stringent action against Manikata and his family members for the abetment of suicide,ā€ said Swethaā€™s mother Ramadevi.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Disha Police Station), Ch Vivekananda said Swetha might have committed suicide as they didnā€™t find any injury marks on her body.

ā€œA case under Section 174 of CrPC has been registered and the investigation is on to ascertain the exact reasons for the extreme step of the pregnant woman,ā€ he added.
