The baby was shifted to KG Hospital where he succumbed. Police received a call from sanitary workers after they discovered the abandoned baby boy at the burial ground. Police rushed to the spot and found the infant wrapped in a cloth. The newborn was given treatment at two hospitals before the baby boy was shifted to KGH.
Police suspect that some unidentified persons might have dumped the newborn boy at the burial ground on Monday night. Though the baby boy was noticed before any stray animal could feed on him, he was shifted to KGH for better treatment. "We have registered a case under relevant laws. We were checking the records at the private as well as the government hospitals in the region to trace the parents of the infant," police said. Police suspect the role of a woman for dumping the newborn at the burial ground.
It may be recalled that in May 2022, an unidentified woman gave birth to a baby boy on the Dhanbad-Alappuzha Bokaro Express train and abandoned him in the wash basin of a toilet in AC-Coach in Vizag city. A passenger alerted the on-board chief ticket inspector, as he heard the baby cry in the toilet. The baby boy was shifted to KG Hospital in the city and the railway authorities offered to bear all expenses for the upbringing of the child even if the mother comes forward.
The cases of newborns being dumped are increasing in the society in the Vizag region. More than four such incidents were reported in the Vizag region in the past one year.
