Vizag police resume campaign against drunken driving, book 250
According to Section 185 of the MV Act, motorists can be booked for drink driving if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is more than 30 mg per 100 ml blood.

This follows the complaints about rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol.
Cops armed with the latest breath analyzers conducted checks at Beach Road, Jodugullapalem, Gajuwaka, Dwarakanagar, and a few other places in the city. Drivers were asked to blow air into the breath analyzers to determine the alcohol level.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Wing, Vizag city, Ch Adinarayana said they had stopped the drive against the tipsy driving after the outbreak of the Covid-19 in March 2020. He said it was aimed to avoid the risk of transmission of the virus.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, city police booked 5,000 cases of tipsy driving in 2020
"We observed that some motorists are violating the traffic norms under the influence of liquor. We resumed the drive against the tipsy driving recently to nab the tipsy motorists. There were some accidents in the city due to tipsy driving," he said.
Police have booked over 250 cases of drunken driving. "We are chalking out plans to intensify the drive. We are trying to avoid road accidents due to drunken driving," he added.
According to Section 185 of the MV Act, motorists can be booked for drink driving if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is more than 30 mg per 100 ml blood. "Once the motorist is caught for tipsy driving, he has to be produced before a local court. He can be fined up to Rs10,000 or jailed for up to six months," police said.
