Visakhapatnam: City police have arrested the recovery agent of the instant loan app for driving a woman to suicide at Vizag.

Identified as Gautham Mule, he was working as a loan recovery agent with instant loan financing app, `Hyper Tails' at Koregaon Park, Cosmos Bank in Pune of Maharashtra.

Mule was arrested after 25-year-old-woman Mandava Ahalada, a resident of Gajuwaka in Vizag city, committed suicide after she was harassed by the loan recovery agent.

Three others Parasuram Lahu, Liang Tiantian and HR Hakib Sheik are also accused of abetting the suicide of the woman.

DCP (Crimes) V Suresh Babu said unable to bear the harassment and humiliation over non-payment of instant loans, Mandava Ahalada ended her life on November 3, 2020.

Gajuwaka police had launched an investigation based on the complaint from Ahalada's mother Usha Rani. After registering a case under Section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide), the case was handed over to the central crime station for further investigation into the case.

The family members told police that she was depressed due to the harassment by loan app companies. The loan recovery agents repeatedly sent voice messages and other humiliating messages to her.

The investigation has revealed that the woman had repaid over 80 percent of the loan amount with interest. However, she was in depression as she was regularly receiving calls from loan apps.
