Visakhapatnam: The Cyber Crime Police have arrested Youtuber and fisherman, Vasupalli Nani, aka ‘Local Boy’ Nani, for allegedly promoting online betting apps on social media. He was made to appear before the magistrate and sent for judicial custody.

Recently, Nani took to social media sites like YouTube and Instagram and briefed the benefits of earning easy money with less investment by promoting online betting apps.

Sajjanar reacts to Nani's post

Reacting to the post, on February 20, TGSRTC managing director VC Sajjanar on his X (formerly Twitter) said that there are multiple ways for social media influencers to earn money, but not through promoting online betting apps.

“How appropriate it is to enslave so many people to the demon of gambling. As social media influencers, don’t believe that what you do succeeds. Remember that you may face legal consequences. For the time being, consider the welfare of society and refrain from promoting online betting apps,” Sajjanar said.

On February 21, a victim who lost his money by investing in online betting apps filed a complaint with the police against Nani for misleading the youth through false propaganda about earning easy money through online betting apps.

In his complaint, the victim alleged that, influenced by the propaganda by a section of people through social media platforms, he gambled on applications like DAFABET, PARIMATCH, MAHADEV BOOK, RAJABET, lost a lot of money, incurred debts and was unable to repay them, besides suffering with mental stress.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the police conducted a thorough investigation and came to know that Nani earned money through promoting online betting apps on social media platforms.

Later, the police also discovered through Nani that other social media influencers were also promoting these types of betting apps. They will soon be identified and proper legal action will be taken, the police said, and added that in case any individual resorts to the promotion of online betting apps on social media platforms for their own benefit, they would also be prosecuted.

Nani apologises in video

He also appealed to the social media influencers not to promote online betting apps to earn easy money and suggested they promote good content. Nani also announced that he will be staying away from social media.
