Additional superintendent of police P. Anil said they have arrested three persons, including Ramakrishna's wife Dola Lakshmi and her lover B. Dasakanteswara Rao.
On 2 April, Ramakrishna, an autorickshaw driver, was found lifeless following a road accident in Nathavalasa. The Pusapatirega police initially registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC.
Ramakrishna was a resident of Dodi Baduva village under Denkada mandal in the district and was addicted to liquor. He married Lakshmi around 27 years ago and the couple had two daughters and a son. He had harassed his wife several times for money to buy liquor.
The police raised doubts over Ramakrishna's death after his wife frequently visited the police station to inquire about the status of the case.
The investigation revealed that Ramakrishna's wife Lakshmi had worked as a helper in a canteen of a pharma company at Pydibheemavaram in Srikakulam district a decade ago. There, she had started an affair with the canteen supervisor, B. Dasakanteswara Rao.
Rao used to spend time with Lakshmi's family and even gave money to Ramakrishna to buy liquor. However, when Ramakrishna came to know that his wife had an illicit affair with Rao, he quarrelled with her.
Rao and Lakshmi decided to kill Ramakrishna. Rao sought the help of his friend Shankar.
On 2 April, Rao and Shankar came to know that Ramakrishna had gone to Perapuram to drop some people in his autorickshaw. The duo went to Perapuram where they met Ramakrishna and consumed liquor.
Rao and Shankar murdered Ramakrishna by hitting him on the head with a boulder. They tried to make it look like a road accident.
