Vizianagaram: A 24-year-old man, who was accused of stealing a mobile phone from his friend, was found dead in a well near J Narayanapuram village under Two-Town police station limits in Vizianagaram.

The man was identified as G. Prem Kumar, a resident of Gowdu street in Vizianagaram town.

The police said Prem Kumar, along with his five friends, consumed liquor on 2 January. A few minutes after the liquor party, Prem Kumar was accused of stealing a mobile phone. The phone was later found in Prem Kumar's bike.

Prem Kumar didn't return home that day or the next. His friends handed over his bike and mobile phone to his parents and informed them they had no idea about Prem's whereabouts.

Sensing something wrong, Prem Kumar's parents approached the police. The police found Prem Kumar's body in a well and registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death).

Prem's family alleged that he was murdered after he was branded a thief by his friends. They demanded stringent action against the persons responsible for his death.
