Hyderabad: National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a supplementary chargesheet against CP Moideen alias Girish, a top leader of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), for his involvement in a conspiracy to wage war against the state.
Charged Under UA(P) Act
In its chargesheet submitted before the NIA Special Court in Hyderabad, the agency charged Moideen under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Central role in Western Ghats Maoist wing
The NIA investigation revealed that Moideen played a key role in Maoist operations as a Special Zonal Committee Member of the Western Ghats Special Zonal Committee (WGSZC).
He took over as Secretary of WGSZC after the arrest of Central Committee Member Sanjoy Deepak Rao in September 2023.
Planned violent actions against forces
According to the agency, Moideen oversaw Peopleās Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) squads in WGSZC, led recruitment drives, propagated Maoist ideology, and planned violent attacks targeting security forces in the KeralaāKarnatakaāTamil Nadu tri-junction.
Arrested by Kerala Police
Moideen was initially taken into custody by Kerala Police in August 2024 and was formally arrested by the NIA in January 2025.
Background of the case
The case was originally registered by Telangana Police in September 2023 following the arrest of Sanjoy Deepak Rao, who was found carrying arms, ammunition, and Maoist literature.
The NIA later took over the investigation, filed a chargesheet against Deepak Rao in March last year, and continued probing Maoist revival attempts and networks.
Sanjoy Deepak Raoās Arrest
Deepak Rao, a CPI (Maoist) Central Committee Member, was arrested by the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of Telangana Police from the Kukatpally area in Hyderabad. He was wanted by the NIA, Maharashtra Police, and police forces of several southern states.
