Hyderabad: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday brought back a wanted Andhra Pradesh fugitive from the United Arab Emirates through INTERPOL.

Anil Kumar Reddy Yeddula is accused of multiple cheating and criminal breach of trust cases. A Red Notice was also issued against him

He was brought to Hyderabad from Dubai and handed over to the Andhra Pradesh Police at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Arrested in UAE after Red Notice

CBI officials said a Red Notice against Anil Kumar Reddy Yeddula was issued through INTERPOL on September 5, 2022, at the request of the Andhra Pradesh Police.

Acting on the notice, UAE authorities traced and arrested him. Following legal proceedings, a decision was taken to extradite him to India.

He was escorted to Hyderabad by a team of Dubai Police and formally handed over to the Andhra Pradesh Police at the airport for further investigation and legal action.

Charges against the accused

The accused is wanted in several cases registered in Andhra Pradesh on charges of cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation.

Police sources said multiple complaints had been filed against him, alleging financial fraud and related offences. Further investigation will now proceed under the supervision of the Andhra Pradesh Police.

Coordinated international effort

The return of the accused was coordinated by the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the National Central Bureau (NCB), Abu Dhabi.

CBI functions as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL and facilitates coordination between Indian law enforcement agencies and their foreign counterparts through the BHARATPOL platform.

Over 130 fugitives brought back

Officials stated that more than 130 wanted criminals have been brought back to India in recent years through coordinated efforts using INTERPOL channels. Red Notices issued by INTERPOL are circulated globally to help law enforcement agencies track and provisionally arrest fugitives pending extradition or deportation.
