Warangal: A woman police constable allegedly ended her life after being subjected to sustained harassment and humiliation by two men, police said on Friday.
Background of the case
According to the Hanamkonda police, Anita, a native of Seethya Thanda in Parvathagiri mandal of Warangal district, was working in the Armed Reserve (AR) wing of the Warangal Police Commissionerate.
For the past four years, Rajender, a distant relative from Kommanapalli Thanda in Torrur mandal of Mahabubabad district, had been promising to marry her. However, he allegedly began harassing Anita frequently, insisting on video calls even during her duty hours and accusing her of speaking to other men.
Family’s objection and continued harassment
Unable to bear the harassment, Anita informed her parents. After observing Rajender’s behaviour, they clearly refused to consent to the marriage. Despite this, Rajender allegedly continued to pressure and plead with her.
Second accused and mental distress
Meanwhile, Anita was reportedly close to her classmate Jabbar, and the two were considering marriage. Upon learning this, Rajender allegedly called Jabbar and spoke to him abusively.
Subsequently, Jabbar, too, allegedly began harassing Anita and demanding money as a condition for marriage. Under mounting mental stress due to harassment from both men, Anita fell into severe emotional distress.
