West Godavari: Three people were killed and another suffered critical injuries in a blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Kadiyadda village of Tadepalligudem Mandal,

Expressing shock over the incident, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the deceased and directed authorities to extend better treatment to the injured.

According to the Eluru Range DIG Palraju, the incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Thursday. "People saw the fire and immediately informed the police. There were around 10 employees present when the blast occurred. While the unit had to be closed at 5 pm, the owner had asked four of the workers to come to the unit for completing new orders," he said.

Police teams and fire tenders rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. The reason for the blast is yet to be ascertained.

Firecracker unit owner P Annavaram has been taken into custody.

West Godavari district Collector P Prashanti has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
