Hyderabad: A woman constable was murdered by her brother who knocked her down with a car and attacked her with a knife. The incident occurred near Raipole village, Ibrahimpatnam mandal in Ranga Reddy district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as K Nagamani, working as a constable at Hayathnagar police station. The accused Paramesh was arrested by the police. He confessed to having killed his sister over a property dispute.
The police said that Nagamani was earlier married to a person she divorced almost 10 months ago. Nagamani returned the ancestral property to his brother after the divorce. However, she started pressuring him to return her ancestral property after she married Srikanth. Nagamani married Srikanth a fortnight ago, the police said.
Irked over her sister's behaviour, Paramesh killed her.
Accused crashed into victim’s two-wheeler and slit her throat
The incident happened when Nagamani was on her way to duty on a two-wheeler from Raipole to Manneguda near Ibrahimpatnam. The accused, who was in a car, hit the constable’s two-wheeler and slit her throat with a knife.
Nagamani sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Ibrahimpatnam police rushed to the spot and found the constable lying in a pool of blood.
“We suspected that the woman constable was killed by her brother Paramesh for marrying Srikanth from another caste against the wishes of her family members. A case has been registered and further investigation is on,” said inspector of police B Satyanarayana.
Paramesh threatened to kill Nagamani’s husband
Speaking to the media, Nagamani’s husband and agriculture field assistant B Srikanth said on Saturday as they had a day off, they visited their village Sahara Mansurabad, Vanasthalipuram, Rangareddy District.
"On Monday at around 8:20 am, I left for duty and spoke to my wife Nagamani over the phone while on my way. During the call, Nagamani told me that her younger brother Paramesh was trying to hit her with his car. Suddenly, the call was disconnected. I immediately tried calling her back, but she did not answer. Concerned, I informed my brother Srinu, who rushed to the location and later called me back to inform me that Nagamani was lying dead on the road. I immediately reached the scene near the substation on the way from Rayavolu to Manneguda, where I found my wife in a pool of blood with severe injuries," Srikanth said.
Informing about their relationship, Srikanth said that they both were classmates in the school and have known each other since 2011.
"After learning about our relationship, her parents forced her to leave the house in 2016 and she stayed in the hostel. Nagamani had no source of income, so I supported her financially through my job and paid fees for her police training. In 2021, she was selected and posted as a constable. Till November she stayed in the hostel.
On November 19, we both married at Yadagirigutta temple and filed a complaint with the police citing a threat from her family members. Nagamani’s brother Paramesh reached the police station with his acquaintance and threatened to kill her for marrying me against his wish. I strongly believe that Paramesh killed his sister because of inter-caste marriage and he even took away one acre of ancestral property from her before our marriage,” Srikanth said.
