Woman drowns two-month-old infant in water tank, held

Hyderabad: Abdullapurmet PS police, on Saturday, arrested a woman for drowning a two-month-old infant in a Sintex water tank. According to the police, two months ago, the complainant, Doosari Latha, who is married to Tirumalesh, a resident of Nerrapally village, had a baby boy after 12 years of marriage.

As per tradition, she came to visit her parents, where her younger brother Balraj and his wife Swetha were also there. Swetha recently had an abortion due to ill health and Latha made fun of this and claimed that Swetha can never conceive again. As per the complaint, Swetha developed a grudge against Latha.

On Friday, Swetha woke up at 3.50 am when everybody was in deep sleep. She silently took the baby from his mother and grandmother and took him to the terrace of the house. She then tried to kill him by pressing his nose and chest but the boy started to cry. So, she opened the sintex tank and dropped the baby in it. After confirming the death of the baby, she came back silently and slept. She was taken into custody on Saturday and a case was registered.
