Visakhapatnam: Four Maoists, including a woman carrying a cash reward of Rs. 4 lakhs on her head, surrendered before the DIG (Visakha range), L.K.V Ranga Rao, at the district police office in Visakhapatnam on 4 December.

The four have been identified as Korra Seetha (25) alias Swarna and Shailu, an area committee member of Pedabayalu and a native of Sakirevu under Pedabayalu mandal in Vizag Agency; Pangi Musiri (36) alias Chittibabu, the militia commander of Busiput pocket; and militia members Korra Venkata Rao (37) and Pangi Gopala Rao (55) alias Gopal.

Speaking to reporters, the DIG said Seetha was an important member of the Pedabayalu area committee. He said that ill-health, the Maoist party's negligence towards their health problems, and the struggle for food, sleep, and other basic needs due to increasing police combing operations were the reasons behind her surrender.

Mr. Ranga Rao said that more Maoists were surrendering due to the frequent police combing operations, pressure from family members, extensive awareness programmes conducted by the police and other development activities. He further said that the Maoists were upset with party leaders killing innocent tribals.
