Chirala: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly found raped and murdered at village in Bapatla district on Friday morning, said police.

The body was found lying near a railway track at Sitarampuram area in Epurupalem village.

ā€œThe woman had gone to attend natureā€™s call between 5:30 am and 5:45 am but did not return home, prompting her family members to launch a search for her, who was eventually found dead,ā€ said Bapatla District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal in a press release.

Jindal visited the spot and conducted an inquiry.

Police suspect that the woman was raped before being murdered. A case was registered and five police teams were formed to investigate the murder.

Naidu expresses ire over incident

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed his ire over the rape and murder of a woman in Bapatla district. Minister for Home Affairs Vangalapudi Anitha visited the crime spot and later she interacted with the family members of the deceased and assured of extending all necessary support to them on behalf of the state government.

The chief minister also asked the officials to speed up the investigation and initiate stern action against the culprits.
