Hyderabad: Hours after the murder of Debendar Gayan (35), general manager at Sandarshini Elite Restaurant in the Madinaguda area, the Miyapur police arrested Rathish Nair (42), a former general manager of the same hotel.

The police said that the deceased and the accused were colleagues at the Miyapur hotel. There was a competition between them for the post of general manager, due to which they used to constantly fight with each other.

“Because Debendar was in the good books of the owner of the hotel because of his productivity, he was promoted to general manager instead of Rathish Nair. This led both of them to get into a fight. Rathish was later terminated from his job due to bad behaviour,” said Madhapur DCP G Sandeep.

Rathish Nair kept his grudge against Debendar and decided to kill him. Subsequently, he procured a country-made weapon and watched over him with an intention to kill.

On Wednesday night, at around 9:40 pm, Rathish Nair waited outside the hotel for Debendar to come out. When he came out, Rathish Nair opened fired six rounds and ran away.

Based on the complaint lodged by Priyanka Gayan, wife of Debendar Gayan, police launched teams to nab the accused. He was arrested on Thursday afternoon and was produced before the court for judicial remand.
