Hyderabad: Police have arrested a 25-year-old necrophile who brutally murdered a 24-year-old woman and raped her corpse in Yadadri Bhongir district, about 40 km from Hyderabad.

E Harish Goud raped the victim twice. He raped the victim when she was alive. After she raised alarm, he hit her with a log resulting in her death. Later he raped her corpse.

The woman's body was found by her husband late in the night. She was taken to the hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police said the accused was traced within 24 hours' and the silver articles he stole from the 24-year-old victim were recovered from his possession. Police said Harish raped the victim even after her death.

"We used dog squads to trace the accused. We collected other evidence from the spot. We managed to track down the suspect within 24 hours. After interrogation, we arrested him," said N Uday Reddy, ACP Choutuppal.

The woman and her husband migrated from Nagarkurnool district to Choutuppal in search of livelihood a few months ago. The couple started living in a hut Toopranpet village, where the husband got a job as a night watchman. During the day, the husband used to work as a security guard at an engineering college.

The accused came to Choutuppal three weeks ago and started working in a dairy.

When the victim was alone, he sexually assaulted her. When she resisted, he dragged her to a haystack in the nearby fields and raped her. She threatened to inform her husband which angered the accused. She tried to raise the alarm and run away, but the accused attacked her with a log. When she fell unconscious, he raped her again, before fleeing the spot. He also took away her silver anklets.

The victim's husband, who returned home at around 8 pm, started searching for her. At around 10 pm, he found her naked body lying in a pool of blood. He immediately approached the Choutuppal police. She was shifted to the local hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Reddy said the post-mortem report revealed that she was raped twice and sustained grievous injuries on her head. The man was produced before a court on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody. Chouttuppal police have charged him under Section 376 (rape), 392 (robbery), and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code besides the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
