Telangana Statistical Report: 8.46% children malnourished in state

Of the 18,72,991 children in the state, 17,14,524 are normal accounting for 91.54 percent. Around 1,58,467 children are malnourished.

Telangana Statistical Report:  8.46% children malnourished in state

Hyderabad: Around 8.46 percent of children in Telangana are malnourished, according to State Statistical Report.

The report was released by the Telangana State Development Planning Society. According t o the report, of the 18,72,991 children in the state, 17,14,524 are normal accounting for 91.54 percent.

Around 1,58,467 children are malnourished. Of whom, 34.18 percent are severely malnourished and 65.82 percent are moderately malnourished.

Mulugu district has the highest number of malnourished children at 12.51 percent. Five percent of them are severely malnourished. Khammam has the lowest number of malnourished children at 5.46 percent. The lowest number of 1.56 percent severely malnourished children are in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district

Jangaon has the highest number of moderately malnourished children at 7.85 percent. Suryapet has the lowest at 3.70 percent.

Supplementary Nutrition

In 2020-21, 4,77,922 mothers were enrolled for the supplementary nutrition programme in Telangana. Of whom 61.31 percent, around 2,93,026, received supplementary nutrition. The share of enrolled mothers who received supplementary nutrition is the highest in Adilabad, at 70.46 percent, and lowest in Jangaon, at 40.11 percent.

In 2020-21, 20,79,606 children were enrolled for the supplementary nutrition programme in Telangana. Of whom, 61.35 percent i.e. 12,75773 children received supplementary nutrition. The highest number of children who received supplementary nutrition is in Siddipet at 80.14 percent and lowest in Jangaon at 42.40 percent.

Health Infrastructure

According to the report, Telangana has 14 specialty hospitals, 9 teaching hospitals, and 27 district hospitals. A total of 226 Basti Dawakhanas are operational in the urban areas of the state.

The state has 636 Primary Health Centers, 232 Urban Primary Health Centers, 90 Community Health Centers, and 20 Area Hospitals. There are 4,745 health sub-centers in the state. The government hospitals in Telangana have a total bed capacity of 27,996.
