Hyderabad: Only 4,000 to 10,000 properties of Telangana Waqf Board have reached the level of final approval so far on the UMEED portal of the total 51000 to 63000 properties in Telangana.

Due to this discrepancy, the Telangana Waqf Board (TGWB) has issued a high-priority directive to all Muthawallis (caretakers) and managing committees of Waqf institutions across the state to check for approved mark in the UMEED portal.

The board has mandated an immediate status check of all property registrations on the UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development) Central Portal.

The TGWB emphasized that a simple upload of data does not guarantee a completed record from the central government. Administrators must log in to the portal to ensure their property status is officially marked as "Approved."

Key Directives for Muthawallis:

Verification: Administrators must confirm that previously uploaded data has passed the verification stage.

Corrections: Any records marked as pending, rejected, or flagged for correction must be rectified and re-uploaded immediately.

Accountability: The Board clarified that Muthawallis and Committee members bear sole responsibility for the accuracy of the data uploaded for their respective institutions.

The move is part of a national mandate to digitize and secure Waqf records to prevent encroachments and ensure transparent management.

What is the UMEED Portal?

The UMEED Portal was officially launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs on June 6, 2025. It represents a paradigm shift from the older WAMSI (Waqf Assets Management System of India) system, which was often criticized for data inconsistencies.

Purpose: To create a centralized, geo-tagged digital inventory of all Waqf properties in India.

Legal Basis: The portal was established following the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which aimed to modernize Waqf administration.

Features: It includes GIS mapping, a digital grievance redressal system, and a three-tier verification process involving the Muthawalli, District Officer, and the State Waqf Board.

Objective: By digitizing records, the government aims to identify unregistered or disputed properties, resolve long-standing litigations, and unlock the economic potential of Waqf assets for community welfare (education, healthcare, and social services).

Waqf Property Landscape in Telangana

Telangana holds one of the most significant portfolios of Waqf assets in the country. Based on recent reports from the TGWB and the Ministry of Minority Affairs:

Total registered properties - 51000 to 63000

Total land area - 77000 plus acres

Digitization status - Over 46,000 properties are registered on UMEED portal so far

Approval rate: only 4,000 to 10,000 properties have reached the different levels of approval so far.

The Challenge

Despite the high number of uploads, a significant gap remains between "uploaded" data and "officially approved" records. In late 2025, officials noted that while nearly 80% of properties had been initiated on the portal, many were stalled due to missing documentation or technical errors, prompting the current "urgent" call for verification.
