During the recently held Nykaa Femina Beauty awards 2020 in Mumbai, she bagged the “Powerhouse Performer of the Year” award. In a heart-warming gesture, the actress dedicated the award to the real-life acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. It may be noted that she had reprised her character in her last film, ‘Chhapaak’.
Sharing her happiness with her fans, Deepika took to Instagram and put up a lengthy post. She shared a couple of photos with Laxmi from their shoot for Femina Magazine and wrote, “Chhapaak truly has been the most difficult film of my career...Having said that, Chhapaak for me is not just a film. It is a movement that has challenged the definition and our understanding of ‘Beauty’. ”
“These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen. I dedicate tonight’s award to Laxmi Agarwal and every single acid attack survivor who on this most incredible journey have shown us all what beauty truly means!” she further added.
‘Chhapaak’, directed by Meghna Gulzar was released in January. The film won rave reviews for Deepika’s performance. However, it failed to make any major impact at the box-office.
On the professional front, Deepika will next be seen in Kabir Khan’s upcoming sports drama 83’ which features her husband Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev. Deepika will be seen as Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia.
The first look from the film featuring the duo was unveiled on Wednesday. She wrote on Twitter, “To be able to play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour. 83’ for me is an ode to every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own...” #ThisIs83 ”
The first look immediately went viral and it was well appreciated by her fans.
In addition, Deepika will also soon be working with veteran actor Rishi Kapoor. It is said to be an Indian adaptation of the film, ‘The Intern’. It is scheduled to release next year.
