Visakhapatnam: On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Eastern Naval Command paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country.

The director-general of Naval Projects, Visakhapatnam, Vice Admiral Sreekumar Nair, Visakhapatnam commissioner of police Manish Kumar Sinha, and Commanding Officer INS Circars Commodore Rahul Gokhale paid homage to the Veers of Kargil War in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at 'Victory at Sea' War Memorial Visakhapatnam on Monday.

A 50-men Guard of Honour performed the 'Salami Shastra' and Vice Adm Sreekumar Nair placed the floral wreath. While the bugler sounded the 'Last Post', a two-minute silence was observed.

On this day (26 July) 22 years ago, Indian forces successfully recaptured the covertly occupied outposts inside the Line of Control. Since then, 26 July is celebrated as the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' every year.
