Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Nilgiri Hills) to address the faculty and student officers of the Staff Course today.

A Mi-17V-5 Helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife, and staff crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Sources confirmed that thirteen persons died in the crash.
The bodies recovered from the site of the crash have been taken to Military Hospital, Wellington in Tamil Nadu
Cabinet meet is underway on the chopper crash, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefs PM Modi on the crash.

There were 14 persons on board, including the crew: Indian Air Force
CDS Bipin Rawat was en route to give a lecture at Defence Service Staff College in Wellington at 2:45 pm.
The search and rescue operations launched from nearby bases.
The MI 17 V5 chopper took off from Sulur in Coimbatore & was heading to Wellington base and the crash is supposed to have happened midway.

IAF has initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
